Texas Holdem Poker Strategy

    Texas Holdem poker is the most popular variant of the poker card games. it is played for the World Series of Poker main event and in The World Poker Tour, the two most famous poker tournaments in the world. In 2000 the World Series of Poker began airing on ESPN, the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel, and poker surged in popularity, especially the Holdem variant. A series of television shows showing Texas Holdem poker began popping up soon after, including ‘Poker Superstars’ and ‘Celebrity Poker Showdown’. The turnouts at the WSOP have been skyrocketing in recent years, going from fewer than 5,000 players in 2000 to over 23,000 in 2005. Suddenly, it seems like the whole world is interested in poker, and if this growth rate continues the entire population of the United States will be attending the WSOP sometime in the late 2030s. if you are going to win you need to have a good Texas Holdem poker strategy.

With its newfound fame, Texas Holdem poker has also boomed across the internet. Online Texas Hold’em poker has become an extremely popular way for new players to learn the game, and even for professional players to hone their skills in between tournaments. A variety of different sites have started, many offering free access to 24/7 online Texas Holdem poker games. Some sites also offer access to other online poker variants, including 7 card stud, and Omaha holdem.

While some of these online holdem poker sites host games for actual money, most of them are just for fun and use ‘play’ money. They all have different styles, but all basically follow a chat room style format. Players register with a screen name, then choose a poker room with an opening. They then sit at a virtual poker table, their character usually represented by an animation of some kind. Most of the online poker sites offer variations of holdem, but the no limit kind played in the WSOP is the most common.
 

Personally, I recommend 'FullTiltPoker.net'. Their site seems more or less free from the lag issues many other sites have, and they have a large selection of rooms available for play. Additionally, they have a number of professional poker players, including Phil Ivey and Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson, on their staff that occasionally come in to play. Though I rarely see them on, it’s a great opportunity to practice against a pro when they do drop in.

Whether you’re new to the game, or an experienced poker player, online holdem poker sites are a great way to practice, or to pass the time while you’re at work and your boss isn’t looking. if you are new to the game, I suggest that you get a good Texas Holdem poker strategy.
