A couple of years ago, a very good friend of my husband, Tim
Howells, worked for an advertising and web design
company that specialized in providing ecommerce solutions. The company he
worked for is called the Design Group. it was started in 1996, by a man
named William Banks and backed by the Miller family, a well-established
business name in the city.
When he started his title was Director of Client Services. He was hired to
act as a mediator or go-between, to ensure that client expectations were
clearly understood by their team of designers and developers. He would create
timelines and carry out all project management and make sure that the
client got what the client paid for, with no last minute, nasty surprises.
The team was made up of some of the best talent in the city. The Creative
Director had a flair for design that was second to none. Their Lead
Developer could make absolutely any vision into a reality... with style!
And the support staff really worked like a well-oiled machine achieving
stellar results every time, on time. With confidence Tim could say that
the company had
the potential to become one of the leading ecommerce and website design companies in
the city! They had their sights set on going national.

And then... Tim was offered a government job. This job was basically an
administrative position with a little bit of communications thrown in.
They wanted him because he had a good understanding of the web and a
background in design and communications. Tim took one look at the job
description and had to laugh. They wanted to pay him a heck of a lot more
money, to do work that he was way over-qualified to do. it would be a
cakewalk. Tim just didn't see how he could turn down this opportunity.
Tim felt really bad about leaving the team at Design Group. They were like
a little family and Tim was really starting to love the world of the best
ecommerce and website design companies in the city. He had finally found
his groove... and he
threw it all away for the mighty pound!
Tim left the Design Group just over a year ago. He still checks their
website on a regular basis. He's always keeping an eye out for their
trademark work - it has a special flair that he'd recognize anywhere. Tim
knows his heart belongs to the world of website design and ecommerce. He just
hopes that one day soon he'll find his way back home.
